Rain, rain, go away...

“Rain, rain go away, come again another day….”

Traveling to Schenectady, New York, I’m praying and asking God what could I write about in my first blog. I’m stressed, fearful, and feel totally inadequate. Immediately I hear, “Rain, rain go away, come again another day”. WHAT! This wasn’t exactly what I hoped to hear from God.

It’s pretty scary when this daunting task is before you and your hearing songs from your childhood. Maybe it’s because my family was in Walmart tonight, and we were playing with the hula-hoops. Yes, we are a little crazy.

So what does this have to do with Yahweh Sisterhood Book Club? It started with a dream over ten years ago when I was in a training for Celebrate Recovery. Yes, God may pick the strangest times to speak to you. He said, “I want you to start a book club and name it Yahweh Sisterhood Book Club”. Wow, I was so excited because I love books. I love how they feel in your hands, their smell, the different sizes and paper, the covers and how you can caress them. They were my safe haven. I could travel anywhere and not be lonely.

I love rooms full of books and dream of having a room large enough that I have to climb a ladder to reach the top shelf. They were my comfort, companion, a place where I could hide, and they never yelled at me or made me feel unloved.

When I was in eighth grade, we had to read two books, The Odyssey and Gone With The Wind. I think I was the only person who read them, and my passion for books was watered and started to grow.

That is the beginning of my dream. YSBC started out in the homes of women back in Schenectady, New York. Sisters you know who you are. We would go to a different home each month, eat some great food and discuss our books. Yes, some of the husbands would show up and they would eat and hang out.

I love having a cup of coffee in a friend’s home and discussing some wonderful books. We were the traveling book club.

After some years, the church we were attending allowed us use their facility. We met once a month and our sisterhood shifted again.

While visiting our daughter in Fort Wayne, Indiana in May of 2015, God said to move there. WHAT! Here we go again. We found a house in one morning and went back to Schenectady to sell that home. We sold it within six weeks, and two weeks later we said goodbye to our family and friends. We were on a new adventure.

When we moved, God said to start YSBC in Indiana. “Okay, well God you need to open a door”, I said to God. I love those conversations, don’t you. We starting attending The Chapel in Fort Wayne, Indiana and felt we found a new home. As time progressed, The Chapel agreed to continue the book club, and we had our first meeting in July of 2015. It was wonderful, but then God had a plan.

STOP…now God tells me to connect with authors and ask them to come in person or through Skype. WHAT! I’m nobody and you want me to ask them what! Then I realized, it doesn’t matter who I am, God said to do it and with God nothing is impossible. As I began to ask, they began to say yes. WHAT A CONCEPT! Listening to God and trusting him. Well remember, God said to do it.

As you can see throughout the website, we have been blessed with many gifted and inspiring authors and many to come. Little did I imagine that my love of books as a child, when I was singing my childhood songs and reading, would

So here I am from a little child to 65 years of age. WHAT! How did that happen.

All I can say, is I’m still singing songs, reading, and trusting God to fulfil the dream of a little girl. You are never too young or too old to follow your dream.

One of my favorite songs has been, “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”. Enjoy a portion of the lyrics.

“Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high There's a land that I've heard of once in a lullaby. Somewhere over the rainbow, skies are blue And the dreams that you dare to dream, Really do come true.”

Are you singing along yet?

I look forward to hearing your dreams, and I hope you will follow mine. There is so much to share with you, so hang on. Blessings to you my sisters.

Your sister in Jesus Christ.,

— Jo
